Alfa Garcia - Bitter End NYC Sunday

October 30, 2008

On Sunday, I’m going to be checking out up and coming singer starlet, Alfa Garcia. Gracia has been making a nice name for herself in the NYC music scene. Coupled with her mature and intelligent lyrics, her voice, which is always full of passion and soul, really allows you not to only envision her song, but to embody it.

In her song Sundown Came, she writes/sings:
“he wakes up her up in the middle of the night
throws her blanket and takes her outside
shows her the moon when it’s facing her smile
and says, ‘remember tonight.’”

She performs on Sunday @ 8pm
The Bitter End
147 Bleecker Street (between Thompson and LaGuardia)
New York City, NY 10012

Below is Alfa Garcia performing, one of my favorites, Oreo and Better at The Five Points Show.

The Mmm Bop loving, Where’s the Love singing, If Only yelping Hanson Brothers are back and they are going on Tour!

Who’s with me? They’re performing in October. And to show my true teeny bopper-ness, I’m going to try to go to the Jordin Sparks and Jesse McCartney concert later this month.

Scott Harris Project at the Bowery

July 23, 2008

BMak (left) and Scott Harris (right) outside of the Bowery Ballroom.

Last Thursday, I caught Scott Harris Project (minus the project) at Bowery Ballroom. He played solo and acoustic. He has been on tour opening up for Teddy Geiger for the past 2 months. And even though Teddy was headlining, most of the people were there for Scott (myself included). I pretty much bounced when Hillary McRae went on after Scott and chilled at the bar. I even met the man behind the guitar: Mr. Scott F-in Harris!

The Set
Pretty tight. You’d think that being solo and acoustic it would be more chill (like an MTV unplugged session). Yeah…no. It was still pretty hype and pretty fun. He played all of my favorites, Live it Up and Level. He even did that whole, “white guy trying to rap” thing. haha…but seriously, you just can’t help but feel good about life after listening to his music. It’s like the “No Hate Zone” whenever his song is on…but then he has to go and ruin it with a song like, I Don’t Like You. J/k…yo, even that song sounds happy.

All in all, good times as usual. Thanks for the show. Keep it hype. You’re definitely going to turn some heads. And thanks for the shout out on your blog

Oh yeah…Teddy was aiite…then again, he’s only 19!!!

Shwayze

July 22, 2008

If you haven’t heard of them already, be sure to check out Shwayze, a group that consists of Shwayze (the rapper) and Cisco (singer/prodcuer). The combination of Shwayze’s smooth delivery and Cisco’s acoustic guitar really captures the laid back vibe of chilling on a California beach (they hail from Malibu). Also, be sure to check out their reality show set to air on MTV on July 23rd. Their self titled debut album hits stores on August 19th.

Shwayze - Buzzin’

Shwayze - Corona & Lime

The Black Kids

July 15, 2008

I just bought two tickets for The Black Kids at Santos Party House.

They’re a band from Jacksonville, Florida. They kind of sound like a mix of the cure, and something else…I can’t quite put my finger on it. But it’s very brit and alternative sounding, even they’re from Florida. And if you check out the video (below), you’ll see that the two siblings in the band are 1/2 Black and 1/2 Filipino.

When I listen to this, I feel like I’m in a movie at the high school dance partying with the alternative cool hipster kids who are also cool with the jock kids. Maybe like Nada Surf? In anycase, check out the youtube, and hopefully you’ll like them enough to come see them.

I’ll be there. July 25th, Santos Party House, 9pm.

Scott Harris Project at Knitting Factory

February 6, 2008

I saw the Scott Project perform at the Knitting factory over the weekend. And man, do they put on a good show!

Scott Harris Project (SHP) is that kind of feel good music that makes your heart tingle, and gets your feet stomping. It’s totally infectious and you can’t help but do that off-beat clapping dance that white people love to do when they listen to rock music like Phish, Grateful Dead, Dispatch.

But with songs like Live it Up, where “…with the people you love, give them a hug,” grab a drink, and feel good about life, who wouldn’t do that clapping dance (like Elaine Benice) It was definitely a good time, and I’m looking forward to seeing them again. Word on the street is that they’re performing again at the Knitting Factory (NY) on Feb 25th.

I’ll see you there.
