Jacks Mannequin - Dark Blue Song
November 11, 2008Saw Jacks Mannequin during the summer. They were either a co-headliner or an opening act for Paramore, not sure which. But either way, at first I thought their songs were kind of blah. But after listening to it a few times, it’s actually not that bad. It’s actually pretty catchy to the point where I like them.
Onto my thoughts about them. They come at a time when there happens to be a huge wave of alternative rock bands with a piano playing frontman (called piano rock) - Coldplay, The Fray, OneRepublic, and the list goes on…It’s your typical upbeat, piano-centric teem rock band. Not as alternative and dark as Coldplay’s earlier work, and definitely not as mellow and suicidal as OneRepublic, or the Fray. They have a sound similar to Something Corporate.
They’re a mediocre fun band that I would definitely pay $20 (maybe $25) to go see. I totally would break them out at a BBQ or on the juke box of your local dive bar over a game of beer pong. This music isn’t suitable for hipsters, but more the Hollister, American Eagle type.
They’re coming to NYC and are playing at Blender theater later this month (Nov. 21st, 22nd) and are completely sold out. But tickets are available on craigslist, or at your local scalper (a.k.a. StubHub).
Below is their video for the song Dark Blue. It’s a cool video. It’s a 50s styled dance marathon.
