girls vs. boys - talking about heart matters

January 28, 2008

e-mail chain with the peanut:

B: I think guys are a little weird about having long, deep conversations. I honestly don’t have deep conversations with any of my guy friends. It’s mostly nonsense. But from time to time, my guy friends and I do talk about what’s bothering us. But not matters of the heart unless it’s BIG.

For example: When one of my friends broke up with her BF last year, I didn’t really ask about it because I figured that she would talk to me when she’s ready. A few months passed and she commented about how I didn’t ask and pry, which translated to how I don’t care.

I don’t know, I mean, you’re a girl…sort of…what do you think?

P: Totally agree with you. Girls get together and talk about their feelings, and greatly analyze everything. Guys just kinda think about it internally and don’t really talk to their other guy friends about it.

In your friend’s situation if I was her I would also think you didn’t care. But then again, I think I would just feel that you were uncomfortable asking about it and all that stuff.

B: I wasn’t uncomfortable. just didn’t want to be too nosy. But I have since learned that girls tend to like it when you’re nosy. Apparently it shows that you care…who’d have thunk it?

P: You ask if you care. If you don’t care, you don’t ask and just look the other way when something happens.

Highlights of our last day in the Bay

- Driving across the Golden Gate bridge on our way to Muir woods (pictured).

- Walking through Muir woods in the rain, and Brian slipping and falling on mud in his attempt to jump and scare Alice.

- Going to the Warriors/T-Wolves game with Brian (the girls went to get Popeye’s). It was a nail biter throughout the 4th quarter, but in the end, Al Harrington’s missed a tip-in at the buzzer allowed Minnesota to pull out a rare win. Final score: Minnesota 109, Golden State 108.

- Asking the cashier at the Warrior’s team store if they carry any Mark Cooper jerseys…haha.

- Eating fried catfish and red snapper at the game (our order came with only one packet of tartar sauce and four packets of hot sauce…I love soul food)

- Getting our free Thunder (the Golden State Warriors mascot) bobble-head dolls. We even got the girls something so they wouldn’t feel bad that we got something and they didn’t… we got them chalk…yes, chalk.

- Asking for directions to the “Full House” house. Here’s the conversation that transpired:

Ant: Excuse me, do you know where the “Full House” house is?
Stranger: Well, I’m not really sure…I…uhh
Alice: (talking into the closed passenger side window) HEY! DO YOU KNOW WHAT COLOR THE “FULL HOUSE” HOUSE IS???
Stranger: What?????
Alice: oh…(rolls down the window) Hey…Do you know what color the house is?
Stranger: Um…no, sorry.

- Us succeeding in our quest to find the real “Full House” house. The exterior of the house used on the show is on 1709 Broderick Street.

- Brian slipping and falling in mud (again) while trying to run down the hill at Alamo Square park.

(Big Powder Blue…miss you)

- Ghost riding our powder blue Toyota Highlander rental at the airport’s car rental parking lot.

This trip was truly amazing. Like B said, “Good friends. Good times. Great memories. Great trip.”

I Can’t Feel My Legs

January 20, 2008

I decided not to hit the slopes today, body still sore from yesterday. So instead, I’m at the bar in the Heavenly ski lounge watching the Patriots/Chargers game. Much to my surprise, there is a heavy Patriots presence in the room. To my right, is a couple from Boston, quietly rooting for their team. In front of me (at the bar), are the rowdier fans, yelling and screaming at every Patriot first down in between gulps of beer. I figured this would be a good time to recap some highlights of the trip for me:

- popping my In-N-Out cherry and quickly pounding down a ‘double double animal style’ (two all beef patties, secret sauce, onions and melted cheese)
- Alcatraz!
- Keeping Alice, Cynthia and Brian up the first night with my snoring
- Finally learning how to turn left with my snowboard
- Drinking PBR Light in the hot tub after snowboarding and at 8am the next morning

We’re leaving Tahoe and heading back to San Fran later tonight, one more day left before heading back to NYC. Tomorrow’s itinerary:

- getting a 3x3 at In-N-Out to start the day (3 beef patties, 3 slices of cheese)
- head to Oakland for the Warriors game
- get Hyphy
- ghost riding our powder blue Toyota Highlander rental
- visiting the ‘Full House’ house (Yeah,.. so!?!)

Alright, gonna grab a few drinks at the bar and watch the rest of the game. Check y’all later.

We’re in Tahoe!!!

We’re in Tahoe right now. To my left is the P to the Nut half cracked out and tired from sleep deprivation. To my right, is the ebonically inclined A.Wong whose first words when waking up are, “You f-ers can’t f- with me!”

But here are the highlights of the trip so far:

- Last 72 hours, maybe 4 hours of sleep.
- 5 snowboarders, and good times for all
- 1 case of PBR, 1 case of Miller light (albert would be proud)
- I’m about to go up the ski lift. The guy that works there hands me a random single ski and says, “hey. bring this up.”
- Cuts, bruises, and injuries for all. But hey, chicks dig scars. And if you’re not falling, you’re not learning.

More on the trip later.

Peas and Nuts goes to Cali

January 17, 2008

I’m going going…
Back back…
to Cali Cali…
- Notorious B.I.G.

The crew is heading out to California to tackle the awesome, mighty slopes of Lake Tahoe for 2 days of Snowboarding, and then San Francisco/Napa for 2 days of fun in the sort of sun away from NY. The boys are going to hit up the Golden State Warriors game on Monday.

Will try to put on some updates about California if we have internet access. Keep a look out. If anything, BMak will attempt to update his travel blog at least once.

Catch ya on the flip.

NYE 2007/2008 Pictures!

NYE party at QDT!

What a great night! There’s nothing better than spending New Year’s Eve with 150 of your closest friends (It actually totaled to 170+!). A little crowded and ridiculous (pictures tell a great story).

But nevertheless, a good time had by all. And the best part is Rich and the rest of the staff at QDT wants us to throw another party there! NYE next year?

Here are the pictures. If you have some more that you want to post up or any that you want us to take down, e-mail them to us: peasandnuts@gmail.com. I didn’t post all of them up, but here are the highlights from the night.

Pictures from A.Wong’s party coming next week.

Rain on Me

January 15, 2008

In the case that you didn’t know what ‘making it rain’ means, I had the liberty of catching these guys in action. They were practicing for the real deal at the club.

Peanut

The Monday after Anthony’s Party…

Here is our e-mail thread:

A.Wong: (Still hungover/demolished from Saturday night) i literally rolled out of bed, put on a dress shirt and walked out the door this morning
Peanut: haha did you do anything productive yesterday (Sunday) mr wong?
A.Wong: if you consider sitting in front of the tv eating popeyes in my pajamas productive, then yes i was. i want to relive saturday night…
Peanut: oh god i just want to forget saturday night. that was a painful sunday morning. ok i think if we ever use the terms jigaboo ever again, we’ll get shot…geez…
A.Wong: HAHA…so you DID look it [jigga boo] up?

From Urban Dictionary:

Jigga boo [jig-gah-bu] - Human of African descent, having jig like qualities. Slang racial derogatory term, i.e. jungle bunny, coon, spook.
***Keep in mind, I’m still standing next to a sweaty, vinegar-ish smelling black dude at the Apple Store, right now…literally 6-inches away.

At Rewind, A.Wong, BMak, Peanut, Simon, Ray, Vin, and the rest of the gang threw up fake $100 bills with Anthony’s face on it, and made it rain up in the place. by 12:30am, there were dollar bills all over the floor, officially completing our goal of making A.Wong’s birthday into a rap video…

Making it rain at Rewind:
Peanut: (money all over the floor) i was just laughing hysterically when the mexican guy came around sweeping up the money.
A.Wong: i remember specifically telling him, do NOT throw them away. At one point i REALLY wanted to make it rain, so i reached into my pocket and only was able to pull out a few bills. i think that was the low point of the night for me. but i think i ended up throwing up some napkins, a la NYE.

Good times with the peas and nuts crew. Pics from NYE and A.Wong’s Party coming up later this week.

I RUN NEW YORK!!!

A.Wong makes it rain…
